Q. Who Organizes National Women’s Health
& Fitness Daysm?
A. National Women’s Health & Fitness Day is organized by the Health Information Resource Centersm (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for professionals who work in the consumer health field. In addition to National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, the HIRC also organizes Family Health & Fitness Daysm, a national health promotion day for family health. The HIRC also sponsors the 17-year old National Health Information Awards and the 10-year old Web Health Awards.

Q. Is your organization connected with National Senior Health & Fitness Day®?
A. Yes, National Senior Health & Fitness Day is our annual older adult health event always held the last Wednesday in May as part of Older Americans Month activities. Now in its 16th year, more than 1,000 local senior organizations and 100,000+ older adults participate in local health events in late May.

Senior Day is organized by one of our other divisions, the Mature Market Resource Centersm (MMRC), a national professional clearinghouse for the older adult market. The MMRC also sponsors the popular National Mature Media Awards and the New Product & Technology Awards.

Q. Why does my senior center have a free Women’s Health & Fitness Day event registration?
A. Local organizations hosting National Women’s Health & Fitness Day events on Wednesday, September 30th must pay a small event registration fee to be recognized as an official event site and to legally use the event name and logo. However, as part of the National Council on Aging’s event sponsorship this year, NCOA’s senior center members (and other selected centers) all receive a free event registration for this year — a $35.00 value!

Q. What can my senior center do to celebrate National Women’s Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, September 30th?
A. You can organize a small event just for your center members, or something larger to showcase your center’s women’s health activities in your community. This website provides all the resources you need to plan a successful event — we make it easy and fun! Your event can be as simple as providing special women’s health information at one of your health classes that day, or you can organize a walk or even a mini women’s health fair at your center. The size and scope of the event is entirely up to you.

Q. Do I have to have an event on Wednesday,
September 30th?
A. No, you can choose another day if it’s more convenient for you. However, hundreds of senior centers around the country will be hosting small or large women’s health events on that day.
