Is It?
Family
Health & Fitness Day is a national health and fitness event for
families always held the last Saturday in September. This year's event is set for Saturday, September 24, 2011. The event's purpose is to promote family involvement in physical activity, one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.
Local organizations throughout the country will host family-related health and fitness events at health clubs, schools, park districts, hospitals, YMCAs/YWCAs, malls and other community locations.
What
Will Families Do During This Event?
Local family health and fitness activities will vary widely based on the organization hosting the event and the interests of local families. Activities will be noncompetitive and may include walking events, low-impact exercises, health screenings, games, open houses, and health information workshops.
How
Do Local Organizations Host a
Family Health & Fitness Day Event?
All local groups interested in hosting a Family Health & Fitness Day event must first register to be recognized as an official host site and legally use the Family Health & Fitness Day USA name and logo. The event registration fee is $29.95 plus $8.95 shipping and handling, and includes the official Family Health & Fitness Day program registration packet.
The packet is an easy to use resource guide that has everything a local organization needs to host a successful event. It includes an official 2011 Family Health & Fitness Day T-shirt, activity suggestions, posters, press releases, publicity tips and copyright-free reproducible masters to hand out. There is also a special toll-free number for local organizations to call for help with event planning.
